Rockwall, TX (November 15, 2025) – A serious early-morning collision between a motorcycle and an 18-wheeler shut down all eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 in Rockwall on Thursday, November 13, leaving one rider severely injured and causing a major traffic disruption that lasted several hours.

The crash occurred around 5:00 a.m. near Ridge Road, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Officials reported that the motorcycle had been stopped on the shoulder of the highway when it was struck by an eastbound 18-wheeler. The impact caused the truck to catch fire, sending flames and smoke into the air as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Rockwall police confirmed that the truck driver was able to escape the burning vehicle unharmed. The motorcyclist, however, suffered severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities have not yet released the rider’s identity or updated condition.

By 9:00 a.m., more than four hours after the collision, eastbound I-30 remained completely shut down as fire crews extinguished the blaze and investigators worked to reconstruct the crash. Traffic was diverted to the service road, leading to significant delays for commuters traveling through the Rockwall area.

The roadway has since reopened, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.

Motorcycle and Truck Crashes in Rockwall

Motorcycle accidents involving 18-wheelers are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. In Texas, where interstate corridors like I-30, I-20, and I-35 carry heavy truck traffic daily, the risk of catastrophic crashes is especially high.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, hundreds of motorcyclists are seriously injured or killed each year, often due to visibility issues, speeding, or improper lane changes by nearby drivers.

When a motorcyclist is struck by a large truck, the resulting injuries can be life-threatening, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, severe burns, internal injuries, and multiple fractures. Victims often require extensive medical care, long-term rehabilitation, and ongoing support, all of which can create overwhelming financial burdens.

In many cases, motorcycle crashes on interstates occur when vehicles fail to recognize or yield to a stopped rider, or when large trucks drift onto highway shoulders. Determining fault can require a detailed investigation involving police reports, dashcam footage, witness statements, and commercial vehicle inspection records.

A knowledgeable personal injury attorney can work with accident reconstruction experts, review maintenance logs and trucking company safety records, and negotiate with insurers to help victims pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, long-term treatment needs, and pain and suffering.
